Kalonji Oil - History, Nutrition, Benefits & Uses

By

Both Kalonji oil and seed are equally good but kalonji oil is preffered over seeds as it is 35to 50% more potent and convenient to use
Kalonji oil is made from truly a remarkable herb called nigella sativa, popularly known as Black cumin or Black seed.
Kalonji is known around the world by many names because of its ancient popular history and medicinal value viz: black caraway, roman coriander, carvi (french), schwarzkummel (german), kalonji (Hindi/urdu), kezah(Hebrew) chernushka (Russian), corek-otu(Turkish), habbat-albarakah or habbatus-sauda (Arabic) siyah daneh (Persian) etc.
Kalonji is sometimes misleadingly confused with similar looking onion seed and black sesame, both of which are totally unrelated and deffinately are not the same.
history
Kalonji seeds have been found in several sites from ancient Egypt, including Tutankhamun's tomb. Although its exact role in Egyptian culture is unknown, it is known that items entombed with a pharaoh were carefully selected to assist him in the after life.
The earliest written reference to N. sativa is thought to be in the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament where the reaping of nigella and wheat is contrasted (Isaiah 28: 25, 27). Easton's Bible dictionary states that the Hebrew word ketsah refers to without doubt to N. sativa (although not all translations are in agreement)
In Islam, it is regarded as one of the greatest forms of healing medicine available. Muhammad (S.A.W.) once stated that the black seed can heal every disease-except death-as recounted in the following hadith:
[Sahih Muslim: Book 26 Kitab As-Salam, Number 5489]
It is also included in the list of natural drugs of 'Tibb-e-Nabavi', or "Medicine of the Prophet (Muhammad)(S.A.W.)", according to the tradition "hold onto the use of the black seeds for in it is healing for all diseases except death" (Sahih Bukhari vol. 7 book 71 # 592).
Nutritional Components of Kalonji
Kalonji contains over 100 valuable nutrients. It is comprised of approximately 21% protein, 38% carbohydrates, and 35% plant fats and oils. The active ingredients of Kalonji are nigellone, thymoquinone, and fixed oils.
Kalonji contains significant proportions of protein, carbohydrates and essential unsaturated fatty acids, namely linoleic acid and gamma linolenic acid(omega3 &6), which are essential for a healty immune system other than calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin B2, niacin, and vitamin C.
Nigellon semohiprepinon is an effective treatment of bronchial asthma and respiratory allergies because of its ability to expand and relax the air ways. It also reduces the release of histamines into the bloodstream and thus works against allergic reactions.
Another active ingredient of kalonji isThymohydrochionon, also acts as an antihistamine and pain reliever.
Use of kalonji helps in synthesis of prostaglandin E1. Prostaglandin E1 suppresses the release of allergic messenger substances and harmonizes the immune system. During the course of long term use the body's defence mechanism stops its excess activity and regains its balance. This ameliorates ailments caused by allergic hyper-reactions, such as asthma, hay fever, and eczema
Long-term supplementation with Kalonji can reduce allergic symptoms greatly
It has been traditionally used for a variety of conditions and treatments related to respiratory health, stomach and intestinal health, kidney and liver function, circulatory and immune system support, as analgesic, antiinflammatory, antiallergic, antioxidants, anticancer, antiviral and for general well-being
Scientific research
Thymoquinone and pancreatic cancer treatment
Researchers at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia have found that thymoquinone, an extract of nigella sativa seed oil, blocked pancreatic cancer cell growth and killed the cells by enhancing the process of programmed cell death, (apoptosis). While the studies are in the early stages, the findings suggest that thymoquinone could eventually have some use as a preventative strategy in patients who have gone through surgery and chemotherapy or in individuals who are at a high risk of developing cancer.
"The seeds are also rich in sterols, especially beta-sitosterol, which is known to have anticarcinogenic activity."

0 Reasons Why Exercise Can Help You Live a Longer, Healthier Life

By   |

No matter what your age, athletic ability or weight, countless studies have shown that regular exercise can lengthen your life and improve the quality.
Here are 10 reasons why exercise is so important to a longer happier life.
1. Heart smart - Exercise will strengthen your heart and as a result it won't have to beat as fast to circulate your blood. This will help blood circulate more efficiently throughout the body.
2. Clear arteries - Regular exercise, especially aerobic workouts such as on a treadmill or elliptical machine, increases the good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, HDL) and helps reduce bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, LDL). As a result, you'll have less plaque clogging your arteries.
3. Lose weight - When you exercise and eat a sensible diet, it can help you lose weight and keep it off. When you are at a healthy weight it's of great benefit to your overall well-being.
4. Increase energy - While you'll feel fatigued during exercise and immediately after, in the long run it will increase you overall energy.
5. Fight off disease - Exercise actually improves your immune system and this in turn can help improve the odds that you ward off a variety illnesses.
6. Reduce chronic health risks - Exercise can help you ward off a variety of health risks that are associated with being overweight and generally out of shape. If you are fit and trim, the odds go down that you'll have to deal with things such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.
7. Improve muscle tone - Muscles are strengthened through exercise and this can make for a better quality of life and less risk for injury.
8. Improve bone density - Exercise also helps increase bone density and this is a huge factor in helping people age better. Senior citizens who partake in even basic strength training can stay independent much longer.
When muscles are exercised, strain is also applied to the bones, and that strengthens them as well. When our bones endure stress, they naturally keep themselves stronger.
One of the major reasons senior citizens' bones become weak and brittle is because they don't get enough exercise.
Vibration training machines are a great way for seniors to safely perform strength training.
9. Mood enhancer - Exercise can release endorphins, natural mood enhancers.
Exercising will help your self-confidence as you get older, which will also help improve your mood.
10. Stay mentally sharp - Improved circulation that comes from exercise can also help keep your mind sharper as you age.

Sources Of Vitamin C: Facts About Orange Juice

By

Traditionally orange juice has been touted as the favored choice of a good source of vitamin C. I am not about to argue the point. I am also sure that those of you who are careful about what you eat, seek to drink OJ that is unadulterated.
Hence, the big producers of "not from concentrate" brands have the Lion's share of the market. There is no need to point out who they are. The "not from concentrate" crowd of major corporations have pretty well cornered the OJ market by offering "100% Pure Squeezed Orange Juice."
If you are one of the multitudes who think that is what they are drinking, I have some disturbing news for you!
Facts About Orange Juice
These "100% Pure Squeezed Orange Juice" products, made famous by advertising with misleading pictures such as a straw stuck into an orange are not what they are made out to be. In order to provide this juice to a massive part of the population year round invariably requires a long storage time as well as shelf-life.
The incredible power of advertising is seen in the fact that most of us know that it is just not biologically possible to store pure, fresh juice for long periods. Yet, few of us challenge the claims that these are pure juices. How on earth do these corporations manage to do this without any additives, let alone preservatives?
They accomplish this by aerating the juice in aseptic storage vessels capable of holding millions of gallons. By aerating I mean they remove the oxygen to preserve the OJ. Along with the oxygen goes the flavour. If you drink the OJ now it would taste like sugar water. But, they can store this liquid for up to a year!
How do they get the taste back in?
Have you ever wondered why the same famous brand tastes the same in every part of the world or how certain brands always have their own distinctive flavor if the stuff really is natural? Here is how.
Flavor packs developed by the same companies that add fragrance to perfumes, like Calvin and Dior are used to give each OJ its distinctive taste. That is impossible you say? It says it is 100% pure. In a devious manner of speaking it does flirt with truth.
The said flavor packs are formulated from products synthesized from oranges. Although the orange essence and oils used, are refined from oranges, they resemble nothing made by Mother Nature. They also contain large amount of ethyl butyrate.
I don't know about you, but I would look for something a little less suspicious for a source of vitamin C. My main focus is good sources of vitamin C. For those of you who find the facts about orange juice hard to believe or just want more information I'll refer you to the lady who put the squeeze on the industry.
In her book Squeezed: What You Don't Know About Orange Juice, Alissa Hamilton pulled the rug out from underneath the producers. Although she appeared on ABC News and a host of talk shows her message seems to have largely missed the mark. Therefore I thought it worth re-visiting.
Sources of Vitamin C
To begin with vitamin C supplements aka ascorbic acid have been, unsurprisingly, shown to be less effective in treating scurvy than natural sources. I tend to be leery of supplements because it is, in my view, dangerous to picture nutrients as separate entities.
Vitamins work symbiotically with one another as well as with enzymes, minerals and other nutrients in natural foods, such as a host of acids. Therefore, natural sources are always preferable. With the coporatization of the food industry and depletion of soil through unsustainable commercial agricultural techniques they are, unfortunately, not always easily available.
Before the convenience of modern food storage our ancestors often resorted to sprouting dried legumes or fermenting milk or vegetables when fresh vegetables were not available. These processes increase vitamin C, in the case of fermentation, dramatically.
For example to avoid the plague of scurvy experienced by their European counterparts, ancient Chinese sailors took barrels of dried mung beans on their voyages. In a similar manner Captain Cook kept his crew from scurvy with sauerkraut fermented from cabbage on his 27 month circumvention of the globe.
The following is a list of good sources of vitamin C:
Orange juice 1 cup (caveats apply): 93 mg
Papaya 5 oz: 85 mg
Pineapple 1 cup: 67 mg
Acerola powder 3.7 gm: 60 mg
Kombucha 4 oz: 60 mg
Lemon 1: 54 mg
Sauerkraut 1 cup: 20.9 mg
I use to take vitamin C supplements as I was always concerned about getting sufficient since it is so crucial. It has been used in large doses to cure cancer and is known to be a strong defence. Now that my principle beverage is kombucha not only for the health benefits, which are numerous, but because it is super cheap and very tasty I have no worries.

Image result for Tilapia Fish

Any baked, grilled, fried, smoked, steamed, stewed, stuffed, glazed, broiled or what have you recipe there is, it ain't Tilapia Fish Recipes if it has no Tilapia in it.
Now let's get to know our fish.
Tilapia were originally found in Africa but today can be found to inhabit different fresh water habitats like streams, ponds, rivers and lakes around the world. They are tropical fish and can only stand temperatures abouve 55*F.
Some interesting and trivial facts about the fish that they rear their young on their mouths until they have grown enough to fend for themselves, The tilapia also, at some time, were released into the Kenyan waters to feed on mosquito larva to address malaria epidemic. They also played a role in the World War II as prime protein source for the poor. And one of its species, the Nile Tilapia also known as St. Peter Fish is also speculated to be the fish Jesus multiplied and fed to the masses at the Sermon on the Mount as the fish is native to the sea of Galilee.
Their appetite, quick growth and breeding, characteristics made the Tilapia the third only to carps and salmonids in the importance in aquaculture.
Tilapia farming has been around a couple and hal thousand years and it is said that farming the fist started in Israel. In 2002 tilapia production went up to 1,505,804 tons and today Taiwan is the largest exporter of Tilapia and the US and Japan being the largest consumers.
The comercial culture of tilapia is almost exclusive these 3 species:
Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis nilotica)
Of the three tilapia species that has the potential for aquaculture, the Nile Tilapia is the most comonly used species in tilapia in fish farming.
Blue Tilapia (Oreochromis aurea)
More at home in salty waters and lower temperatures, the blue tilapia is the next most cultured tilapia specie.
Black Tilapia or Java tilapia. (Oreochromis mossambica)
Very much like the Blue Tilapia in their spawning age and toleracen in salty water, their males grow faster than the other two mentions species.
General Buying Tips that applies only for the Tilapia Fish
Smell it!
The phrase 'Smells fishy' is actually to connote something that is not good and that is probably because whoever came up with that phrase probably only bought fish 'late in the afternoon' when they are no longer fresh, but most of the fish you will purchase would most probably come frozen. Fresh fish smells 'sweet', it should smell a bit different but without the strong 'fishy' smell that means the fish is past its prime.
Fresh fish should not smell bad.
Look at it!
If it looks like fresh out of the water, firm flesh and bright eyes and red gills are signs of freshness. The eyes of the fish are the easiest indicators of freshness, if itis bloodshot, like say in tilapia fish or milk fish, then it might be a better idea to move along. Fillets should look bright without discoloration.
Freeze it!
Fish meat is very perishable and if you are going to freeze it for more than 2 days it should be wrapped well in freezer paper. Only thaw the fish when you are going to cook it, thawing and re-freezing is not a good idea.
Tilapia Fish Recipes Quick Tip: Remove the Muddy Taste -
Common with fish that includes vegetation in their diet, the tilapia fish has a somewhat muddy taste, though I myself have never encountered this muddy taste or i might have grown accustomed to it and probably is the very same flavor that i liked about the tilapia fish but i know others prefers the fish without this flavor.
So if you found this flavor not your liking then to counter act this muddy taste, a 15-20 minute marinating in buttermilk should sip out the unwanted taste out of the fish before going through your tilapia fish recipes.

5 Fundamental Cooking Techniques You Should Introduce to Your Children

 By

Cooking is a fundamental life skill all people must learn, and it must be taught at an early age. You see, teaching kids how to cook is beneficial. First, cooking boosts self-esteem. Seeing and hearing other people eat and praise the food you prepared is a very pleasant experience. On top of that, this activity can sharpen your kids' academic knowledge and skills. Cooking involves Math (counting and measuring), Science (compounding and chemical changes), Language (reading and vocabulary), Art (food presentation), and even Motor Skills (kneading and chopping). And as a bonus, teaching your kids how to cook is a good opportunity for you to bond.
Frying
Frying, is among one of the easiest cooking techniques that you can teach your kids. Probably the safest and easiest food that you can fry is chicken fingers. Unlike fish and pork, oil does not splatter too much whenever chicken fingers are being fried. It is advisable for you to let your kid fry high quality chicken fingers such as the ones freshly prepared from Magnolia Chicken Station.
Food Preparation and Oven Roasting
If you have an oven, it will be a good idea to teach your child how to oven-roast chicken. The cooking time might be long, but the preparation and anticipation of a fully-cooked whole chicken can teach them a lot of things. This lesson will let them understand the importance of combining spices as a way of infusing the chicken with a lot of flavor. This also teaches kids about patience - making them realize that good things come to those who wait. There are several whole chicken options to choose and make sure that you choose the right type and the right size.
Marinate, Simmer and Boil
Boiling is easy to do, and kids can cook great tasting food as long as they accurately follow a recipe that involves boiling. And the best recipe you can introduce to your child to master this technique is Adobo. Some might think that Adobo requires frying; however, a few variations of Adobo skip that part and only require simmering and boiling. Aside from cooking it, you can teach your kid about the marinating process Adobo needs for it to become yummy. And to make sure the result will be rewarding, get your Adobo cut chicken from a trusted brand and recommended by your family or friends. Since chicken is the main ingredient, ensuring that you get fresh and high quality chicken can make or break any recipe.
Making every meal a chance to bond with the family could strengthen your relationship. This experience would surely make dining at home a meaningful and memorable experience.

Why You Need Amino Acids!

By Expert Author Tamara Yapp
Are you dealing with skin problems such as psoriasis or premature aging skin? Would you believe that you're not the only one dealing with these issues?
Millions of people today are dealing with the effects of psoriasis, prematurely aging skin or countless other skin diseases like acne or dermatitis, whether they're living in the suburbs of the Midwest or up in the Hollywood Hills. Even megawatt stars have the skin care blues!
The worst part of this, however, is that very few dermatologists or skin care professionals know how to effectively deal with conditions such as psoriasis aside from costly treatments like skin cremes and UV light therapy. What does it say when a rich celebrity can go to the best dermatologist in Hollywood for solutions, only to be told that her condition is treatable, but not curable?
It's unacceptable, and frankly, ridiculous. Why doesn't anyone know that amino acids and healthy digestion are the keys to healthy skin?
As I detailed in a recent newsletter, there's a direct link between amino acids and your skin's health, one that gets little exposure. See, amino acids are the building blocks of a healthy body, fueling just about every single mental or physical function your body carries out. They're distributed and formed throughout the body when we digest protein. Sounds simple enough, right?
Here's the problem: many of us today have problems with digestion due to eating processed foods, taking antibiotics, prescriptions, and over-the-counter drugs, and from simply being stressed out trying to pay the bills and take care of our families. When that's the case, your body's not breaking down proteins as it should, and so you're not getting the amino acids you need. Furthermore, your immune system becomes compromised because you're not getting the vitamins, nutrients and minerals you need from the foods you eat that aren't being properly digested.
That's when your health starts going off track, and it's not long before it starts showing up on your skin!
I halt this problem dead in its tracks with a twice-daily tonic I concoct using my Pro-Amino-Otic and Pro-Daily-Otic (our fermented probiotic foods in powdered form), that I mix with our Pro-Belly-Otic, our liquid probiotic formula. They're full of the nutrients, vitamins and amino acids your body needs, and because they're fermented and pre-digested, they're easily absorbable by your body, no matter what condition your digestion is in.
Taken together or alone, Pro-Daily-Otic and Pro-Amino-Otic restore and regulate my digestive functions and make sure I receive all of the amino acids I need. They also feed my muscles and help me to detoxify. Doing this is the best way I know how to make sure I'm feeding my skin what it needs to stay glowing and healthy. Tending to my digestive issues has been tremendous in ending my problems with acne, which I first started dealing with when I was 10 years old. I'm now 51, and my skin looks better today than it did when I was 30!
This alone will work wonders for you, but I still have a few more tips to share.
Every night, before I shower, I use a dry brush to clear my body (never my face) of the microscopic dead skin cells that accumulate on a daily basis. This allows my skin to breathe and get to work on producing new skin cells.
Once I've showered, I rub two tablespoons of pure raw organic coconut oil into my skin. Not only does it feel divine, it's perhaps the best natural anti-aging moisturizer you can use to keep your skin supple and young. (Again, this treatment is only for the body. It is not suitable for the delicate facial skin)
When I have a little more time to pamper myself, I make my own facial masks using various ingredients from my kitchen such as oatmeal, honey or avocado. However, there's a secret ingredient that I add that makes all the difference in the world.
My Pro-Belly-Otic is a tangy, refreshing probiotic drink that goes a long way in repairing your digestion by restoring the micro flora in your gut. However, it's fantastic on your skin as well. Once applied, the enzymes and amino acids it contains set to work on your skin helping to fend off the wrinkles that might be creeping up on you. A splash in the mix for your facial mask will do the trick!
There are many gorgeous women in show business, but if all of there money and ability to see the best doctors and go to the most exclusive spas is unable to prevent their skin issues, it's clear that there's something fundamentally wrong with how we address skin care today.
As your parents probably told you, beauty begins on the inside, and it's absolutely true in ways not even they knew. The solution is to pay better attention to what you're eating and how you're treating yourself. Our products are one easy way to ensure your skin and body are getting everything they need to stay healthy and strong. We have your Food to Glow On.

Food For Beauty

By

Oh, spring! A wonderful spring! For some reason at this time of year you want to be beautiful as ever. How foodstuffs can help in making our complexion naturally beautiful after winter? How to use them for avoiding pale skin color? What should one eat to fill a body with energy and, of course, lose weight?
All these questions naturally concern women after several months of cold and lack of the sun. But we want not just something, but only something mouth-watering even at the stage of cooking. Also, we do not want just a dietetic breakfast, lunch or dinner, above all we want to become the most beautiful and desirable after eating it! And do not torment ourselves with remorse for eating a piece of something tasty.
I do not want to advise some standard recipes for weight loss, for example, the recipe of a cabbage soup. Firstly, it is really not very appetizing, and secondly, after the first preparation of this soup it is unlikely for you to want to cook soon. I will not give the recipes of cooking cream soups, from broccoli for example, because this soup all the same is not everybody's cup of tea...
But I want to recommend eating crisps and drinking mineral water. Just a couple of days of such "dry" and lean food and you will see the result on scales! 4-7 pounds lesser in 2-3 days - is it bad? Another recommendation is cereals (preferably unsweetened) with low-fat milk: just a few days of that diet and you are full of energy, despite that the organism loses weight!
Among the general recommendations: refuse coffee and black tea and choose the herbal teas, or even better - a green tea. Numerous studies have shown that a green tea stimulates the burning of calories and helps to cope with fatty deposits. In addition, this drink has an anti-inflammatory influence.
Do not forget about fruits and dried fruits, which are good for a stomach, and simply are delicious! Berries and fruits will make your skin (especially on a face) fresh, elastic and beautiful.
If you want to get rid of the "orange skin" eat less fat and sweets. It is useful to drink enough water every day. In this context, pay more attention towards dairy products, vegetables.
Remember about a positive effect of gruels, cereals. Indulge yourself daily with a variety of porridges: oatmeal, rice, semolina and buckwheat ones. They are especially healthful in the morning, during breakfast. They saturate the body and have very few calories!
Vitamin C protects you from wrinkles. Oranges, cabbage and kiwi have a lot of this vitamin. Eat more salads from fresh vegetables - it is really tasty and the appetite after them moderates. After the salad one usually does not want to go for high-calorie food.
Limit consumption of bread, wheat one particularly. Minimize the eating of all bakery products.
Instead of soup, which very often includes potato, choose a delicious broth, possibly with a small amount of crackers.
Eat cottage cheese to improve hair and nails. Do not forget about the fish.
If the body requires chocolate, eat it with pleasure, and never torture yourself for it (of course, if you have eaten moderately). Do you think that chocolate wrapping are made up for nothing? Chocolate not only improves the mood! In the cocoa beans there are polyphenols, which are responsible for our rejuvenation.
Remember about the benefits of cheese (better if it would be lean). Do not forget at breakfast about eggs and butter.
If you believe that pasta is harmful, it's time to destroy the myth! Oatmeal, pasta, brown rice and beans include concentrated complex carbohydrates, which assimilating with blood become the providers of energy and support normal levels of sugar in blood.
As you see, it is easy to achieve a beautiful appearance with food. It is enough to follow simple rules while compiling the daily menu. Save your energy, beauty, slenderness and youth with pleasure!

Anti Cancer Food - The Top 10

By

It is reasonable to doubt that there are really Anti Cancer foods. Since cancer is a disease of the immune system and the immune system is there to fight for you, a better idea would be to support the system. I for one like to consider food as nurturing and not fighting, For instance food can nurture the immune system so that it is in tip top shape to do its job of vigilantly monitoring and destroying foreign invaders, as well as errant cells in your body.
Even the idea of you agonizing about the possibility of a cancer fight can put your immune system in a tizzy wondering what is upsetting you. This is one of the functions of the system, and this small idea can start a premature reaction at the cellular level as it tries to figure what needs to be done. These are called autoimmune reactions. Thus, it is better to always consider supporting the system.
This is easy. The immune system has specific nutritional requirements. A well fed immune system performs better than a world class war hero, sniffing out the lives and function of invaders at an astronomical rate. This process is supported by your confidence and vigilance in choosing to eat the fresh foods that continually supports the troops.
The moment you adopt the idea of a "nurturing my immune system program", your system will perk up!
Your next step is to pick the right foods recommended by associations like The American Institute for Cancer Research whose sole purpose is to delve into the relationship of diet, weight and physical activity as it relates to cancer. Here is my pick of the ten foods.
1. Sweet potato and chili powder - Foods that are high in Vitamin A and Beta Carotenoids are linked with lung cancer protection. Examples are Sweet potato and Chili Powder. Find a recipe for Chili and eat it with a baked sweet potato and you should be well fortified.
2. Parsley is my pick. It is inexpensive and loaded with Vitamin C, is documented as a front line support of the immune system. Having vitamin C in your blood stream will boost immune function and protect your lungs. You can look forward to preserving your eyesight and backing off infections. Make a parsley pesto and snack away.
3. Yoghurts and dairy products contain Vitamin D. Foods that are high in D help absorption of calcium and maintain structural support of the body. Yoghurt can be eaten alone or can be used as an ingredient in some bake goods such as muffins.
4. Nuts and Seeds or Vitamin B foods - such as sesame seed butter also known as tahini, eggs and fish. These help the body to make antibodies that will actually keep the fight going until you win your cancer fight.
5. Bananas for potassium support of your brain and blood. Bananas can be eaten alone as a snack and is usually a main ingredient in some smoothies. Most of your immune support system is in the blood.
6. Ghee -also known as the Royal Oil - This is the ancient name given to clarified butter. With the invention of impostors like margarine and all sorts of manipulated oils in the name of saving us money and promises of better health, ghee fell from its lofty position. However, none of the health properties of ghee has changed. And it is still the first choice of oil in world cuisine, especially Indian. Ghee still tops the chart for promoting Health and Longevity. Ghee should be used sparingly because it is a fat. Here are some of the properties of ghee with regards to protection from cancer. It helps resist free radical damage and it is loaded with Vitamin A, D, K and choline. Ghee, a heart healthy fat, enhances longevity as it regulates metabolism of cell production. It helps keep cells from having erratic division which can lead to cancer cell proliferation in all body cells.
7. Tomatoes are high in Lycopene an antioxidant which will vigilantly help in the attack of errant cell production of the prostate. Errant calls have a mind of their own and can become cancerous. Lycopene has also been connected with healthy bones which need added attention as aging occurs. Tomatoes can be used to make salsa and an un-cooked soup called Gazpacho which contains the next anti cancer food - garlic
8. Garlic is mostly known to protect against stomach cancer. It can also regulate the amount of inflammatory activity in body cells. Garlic has allyl - sulfides that are involved in helping the body to prevent formation of cancer cells, by helping normal cells respond to oxidative stress. In the face of such stress, allyl - sulfides in garlic helps the cell to dismantle itself, thus lowering the production of cells that might become cancerous. This also can free up cellular material that can be recycled for future cellular production of healthy normal cells. I keep garlic on my counter as decoration and to remind me that a small pod can have powerful chemical and culinary health benefits.
9. Green tea - what can I say! If you seriously want to lower your risk of disease and age without medical fanfare, develop the habit of drinking green tea whenever you want. Its lists of benefits and anti-cancer effects will make you want to pay homage to your detoxification enzymes which are enhanced by the effects of green tea's vigilant phytonutrients, such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Your body will have antioxidant aid in resisting both viral and bacterial infections. This will enable your immune system to function properly. Your overall health will not be compromised as your immune system sniffs out cancer cells before they proliferate, and cause serious, irreversible damage to body organs and tissues.
10. Cruciferous Vegetables - My favorite is kale. It is inexpensive, easy to cook and has a clean healthy taste. It is a master food for the human diet because it has beta carotene and lutein, two antioxidants that help your body to resist oxidative stress. This stress is disruptive to the body, lowers the efficiency of the immune system, and thus can expose you to the possibility of having to fight cancer.

I love what I do and do what I love. Everyday opens new doors and exciting revelations on how to improve my health and the health of those of you who read this newsletter. An exciting new discovery for me was leaning about Matcha Green Tea. Because of the health benefits, I have been a regular 2-3 cup/day drinker. Having now learned about the power of Matcha, I will feel even better knowing that I am feeding my body with proven anti-cancer nutrients.
The benefits of green tea have been known for decades. But now a super tea that has slowly emerged from Japan called Matcha is gaining more and more attention. Matcha is cultivated by local farmers using traditional methods, from growing to grinding. It has traditionally been used to flavor and dye foods such as green tea ice cream and soba noodles.
In 2003, the University of Colorado published a report about the potency and concentration of EGCG, a powerful anti-oxidant found in green tea. The researchers found that Matcha contained up to 137 times more EGCG than regular green tea.
Here are few of the amazing benefits of EGCG in Matcha, specifically about Breast Cancer. There are countless studies that demonstrate the power of EGCG as an effective Tumor Terminator. Here are just a few:
1. Suppresses inflammation and aggressive estrogen mediators in breast tissue.
2. Causes Breast Cancer cells to die
3. Suppresses the new blood flow that feeds Breast Cancer tumor
4. Reverses epigenetic changes and prevents DNA damage that is often seen in Breast Cancer
5. Suppresses stem cell production in human Breast Cancer
Aside from being a Cancer Buster, Matcha hosts a number of other health benefits.
- It is a powerful Anti-oxidant powerhouse, boasting a higher ORAC score than blueberries and pomegranate.
- It contains 5 times more L-Theanine compared to other green teas, an amino acid that creates alpha waves in the brain that induces relaxation.
- Matcha has been shown to improve physical endurance up to 24%.
- It boosts metabolism and burns fat.
- The chlorophyll detoxifies heavy metals and toxic chemicals.
- One glass of Matcha is equivalent to 10 glasses of green tea in terms of its nutritional value and anti-oxidant content.
- Matcha is packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, tocopherols, carotenoids, selenium, zinc, chromium, and manganese.
- Believe it or not, this tea is high in soluble and insoluble fiber, which is great for your colon and cholesterol levels.

Coffee and Chocolate: A Match Made in Heaven

By Because they share many flavor notes, chocolate and coffee seem like a match made in heaven when they meet. The options are truly limitless: each amplifies the flavors of the other to make for a delightful treat. Here are just some of the ways you can combine the deliciousness of chocolate and coffee.
Drinks
There's a wide variety of ways for you to combine the flavors of coffee and chocolate in your drinks. If coffee is your drink of choice, add a chocolate syrup or cocoa powder to your morning cup to make yourself a delightful mocha. Another creative way to include cocoa flavor in your morning brew is to put cocoa nibs in with your ground coffee to make a combination coffee and cocoa tea. For a fun after-hours coffee drink, mix a shot of chocolate liquor into your coffee and top with whipped cream.
For hot chocolate lovers, try adding a shot of espresso to a cup of hot chocolate to make it taste like it's made from even darker chocolate. A shot of coffee liquor in hot cocoa or chocolate milk makes for a delicious adult beverage, and the same concept works well for chocolate milkshakes.
Cakes & Brownies
Whenever you want to intensify and deepen the flavor of chocolate in your baked goods, add a shot of espresso or some strongly brewed coffee. Because chocolate already has distinct coffee flavors to it, you won't necessarily be able to pinpoint that coffee has been added to the dessert: you'll just notice that it tastes richer than it ever did before.
Another way to add coffee to chocolate desserts is to make a coffee simple syrup to pour over cakes to keep them moist. Mix regular strength coffee and sugar in equal amounts (one cup of each is usually enough), bring to a boil, then gently pour onto cakes still in their pans.
Biscotti
Nibbling on a chocolate biscotti with your morning coffee: is there anything better? Feel free to act like a real Italian and dunk your biscotti into your steaming coffee to really relish the melding of the two flavors. If you love the combination, try making your own chocolate and espresso bean biscotti at home to enjoy every morning. Simply take a chocolate biscotti recipe and add chopped espresso beans to the dough before baking. Yum!
Savory Surprises
Chocolate and coffee don't just work well in sweet applications. Try adding some ground dark chocolate or cocoa powder and some high quality coffee to your next barbecue sauce, chili, or molé. The addition of chocolate and coffee can give these dishes a depth and complexity that will have all of your guests wondering what your secret is. Don't worry; we won't tell.
